My Story!

I began my teaching career in the Alief Independent School District in 1997 in Houston, TX. After two years of teaching sixth grade, my husband accepted a job in Abilene, TX where he grew up and attended Abilene Christian University. After our move, Abilene ISD was going through a hiring freeze, so I found other avenues to utilize my education background and worked for the Sylvan Learning and Technology Center as well as substituted for AISD for a year. I then accepted a position working as an administrative assistant and later was promoted to case manager for the Texas Workforce Center assisting needy families in helping them become self-sufficient employees, and I conducted job search workshops for the community. In 2004, I missed teaching and decided to apply within the district again. I had several interviews in Abilene, but no one would hire me due to being out of the field for four years. I interviewed with Alief ISD again and was hired directly to teach fourth grade. My husband resided in Abilene while I taught in Houston to ensure that was what I wanted. While living away from home in Houston, I decided to become certified in 4-8 English Language Arts. I figured I would be more marketable plus I truly enjoy teaching specifically ELA.I taught in Houston for a second year after not having luck getting on board with AISD yet again. After my second year of teaching in Houston, I applied for a seventh grade ELAR position with a middle school in Abilene. Out of 15 applicants, I received a call back for a second interview. Finally, the moment I had been waiting for. I had received the call and instantly and excitedly accepted the position. This coming school year will be my seventh year working as an English Language Arts and Reading teacher, and I absolutely love it.
